Those offering bodybuilding programs are anxious to tell you all the positive aspects of the program, and not at all ready to detail the downside. Outrageous promises may be made to the accompaniment of men and women with incredible bodies, muscles rippling just under the skin with nary an ounce of fat in sight. And the promise that you too can have this marvelous body if you simply work out for three minutes a month! That's an exaggeration, of course, but the real ads are often just as outrageous if you take a minute to evaluate the claims. What's even more disturbing is that some of these bodybuilding programs can be dangerous to your health. The true requirements of bodybuilding programs can be very strenuous. Add that to sudden dietary changes and you may be in a position to do irreparable harm to your body. Does that mean that you should avoid bodybuilding programs? Of course not, but it does mean that you should approach the claims with at least a bit of skepticism. First, ignore the models. Don't look at yourself in the mirror and immediately decide that you're going to look like that buff guy in the commercials in just six weeks. Neither should you look in the mirror and figure there's no hope. Next, make sure you have realistic ideals and goals. Change takes time. Positive steps toward bodybuilding are no different. The best bodybuilding programs are going to be those that help you build up over a period of time, then provide reasonable ways for you to maintain the changes. Finally, be cautious about your money. Don't hand out credit card or bank information unless you've verified that this is a legitimate bodybuilding program. Get the particulars of bodybuilding programs and the terms of purchase in writing. You may find after you've already agreed to pay that you've signed up to participate in a program for years. Being a bit skeptical about bodybuilding programs will help you better evaluate the programs available, and to find the one that's best for you while eliminating bodybuilding programs that are simply not appropriate.
